In the last two years, RCMRD/SERVIR has played an important role in the Land Potential Knowledge System (LandPKS) project by providing geospatial datasets, validating model inputs, testing mobile applications, working with African collaborators and stakeholders and promoting the use of LandPKS applications through National Agricultural

Productivity workshops and other forums. In addition, the New Mexico State University (NMSU) team has been developing an application programming interface infrastructure that will be open source to allow other developers to use while also playing a significant role in the mobile application development and modelling.

In this regard, RCMRD held a brief meeting on 21st January, 2015 to get an update on the LandPKS project developments. The meeting was convened to discuss planned LandPKS developments in 2016 and the continued role of RCMRD in the development and support of LandPKS related activities. Dr. Adam Beh, LandPKS Global Coordinator led the discussions and made a presentation. In 2016, RCMRD/SERVIR will continue to promote application usage, application development and testing, and application outputs validation through existing project outputs. Also, discussions are underway to have RCMRD develop a specific service for LandPKS.

LandPKS is a suite of integrated, modular applications connected to cloud-based analytics and user-accessible cloud storage that will allow users to access share and interpret global knowledge and information relevant to the unique potential of each piece of land. LandPKS recently released two android based applications which are available for download on Google Play; Landinfo and Landcover applications. Read more about LandPKS here
