Data Acquisition and Access (Commercial and Open Data)

RCMRD partners with global data providers such as MAXAR to offer high-resolution datasets (down to 30 cm) at subsidized rates to member states. These partnerships allow RCMRD to serve as a data reseller, supplying vital information to relevant institutions, organizations and ministries. Data acquisition occurs from multiple sources and in different resolutions:

High-Resolution Data (Maxar, 0.5m): Used by entities in urban planning, precision agriculture, construction, disaster response, forestry, and GIS data acquisition.

Medium Resolution (10-30m, Sentinel, Landsat): Supports applications like land cover and land use analysis, monitoring of degraded areas, and precision agriculture.

Low Resolution (MODIS, VIIRS): Monitors large-scale events such as wildfires and infrastructure changes. Vector Data: Derived from high-resolution imagery.

Data Processing

RCMRD processes data across Levels 1 to 3 (Lv01-Lv03), with automated scripts in place for MODIS data that initiate processing post-download from TERRA and AQUA (10:30 and 13:30, respectively).

Data Management and Archiving

All historical and acquired data, including commercial and open-source datasets, are archived for long-term storage and backup. This includes a centralized repository of all RCMRD projects since inception, supported by local and server backups.

Data Dissemination

RCMRD distributes open-source data such as MODIS, Landsat, and Sentinel, along with commercial datasets, to a diverse range of users including government ministries, research institutions, universities, and internal departments.

Advisory Services

The Data Office provides advisory services to member states, organizations, and individuals on data acquisition, processing, archiving, and dissemination. This includes capacity-building initiatives focused on open-source datasets and processing tools for national development.

Research and Development

RCMRD enhances data value through activities such as scripting and utilizing platforms like Google Earth Engine (GEE).
