RCMRD is attending a two Validation workshop, on 8 to 10 Nov 2017, for the Eastern Africa Regional Forest Observatory (OFESA) in Arusha, Tanzania. The purpose of this meeting is to present the Observatory to the four countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique), get feedback and recommendations on how best to scale it up based on the diverse needs of the countries.
The institutions who are participating in the meeting are the project co-implementers Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Centre de cooperation international en recherché agronomique pour le development (CIRAD) as well Forest institutions in the four target countries i.e. Tanzania Forest Service, Kenya Forest Service, Uganda National Forest Authority and National Directorate of Forest for Mozambique
Background Information
The overall objective of OFESA is to strengthen existing institutions and networks in the tropical regions in their capacity to report on their mitigation actions in the forest sector in the context of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in developing countries). At the same time, OFESA will also contribute to assessment of adaptation/biodiversity benefits of forest coverage and sustainable forest management, for policy makers to use in their policy and strategy development.
