Geomatics Indaba 2016 opened in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday 12th September, 2016. The conference themed “Geomatics skills and technologies: Growing professionals to secure our future” attracted 750 participants from surveying, GIS, remote sensing, geo-informatics, mapping, and location-based business. Farah, the Director General of RCMRD made the key note address titled “geoinformation the key to sustainable development- importance of professional and institutional capacity development” at the conference.
Dr. Farah later held discussions with Hon. Des van Rooyen, the South Africa Minster of Cooperative Governance and Local Governments, Mr. Mdudusi Shabane, the Director General of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, and Mr. Mmuso Riba, the Chief Surveyor General. The discussions centered on RCMRD support in capacity development programmes for geoinformation professional in South Africa.
