The Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) adviser, Mr. Makoto ASHINO visited the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) on 18th February, 2016. He came to discuss a proposal for the deployment of GPS receivers in the region. RCMRD is spearheading the Africa Geodetic Reference Frame (AFREF)

and promoting the establishment of modern and accurate mapping reference system through the installation of GPS networks in Africa and through training and advice on standards. The meeting was attended by RCMRD’s Dr. Hussein Farah, the Director General, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kiema, Director, Remote Sensing, GIS & Mapping Department.
