The Ministry of Health in Kenya confirmed a Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Nairobi. The case, which was confirmed on the March 12, March 2020, was the first one to be reported in Kenya since the beginning of the outbreak in China in December 2019. Today July 18, 2020 Kenya cases hit 12,750 with record high of 688 infections. This was out of 4, 522 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours as the cumulative samples tested so far rose to 238,163. The youngest of the new cases is a seven-month-old infant while the oldest is 95 years old. 

Three more patients died. This raised the death toll to 225 and the total number of recoveries 4,440. Of the 457 recovered patients, 401 were under home-based care while 56 were in hospital. Kenya's number of coronavirus cases has been increasing steadily following the reopening of county borders with Tana River becoming the latest county to record a COVID-19 case, raising the number of counties with the virus to 44.

Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe unveiled a new slogan ‘Save Me I Save You’ in the war against COVID-19. Kagwe said the success of fighting the virus can only be achieved if Kenyans work together and take personal responsibility. “The success of our efforts as a county in combating the pandemic depends on the collaboration corporation of all Kenyans,” he said, during a tour Embu County. The Cabinet Secretary unveiled a new slogan ‘Save Me I Save You’ in the war against COVID-19. He said the new slogan is aimed at making each person wary of the person next to them. “We must protect each other.”

He elaborated, “When I protect you, you protect me,” Kagwe said, during a briefing on COVID-19 from Embu County. Nairobi Metropolitan area still leads in the number of infections with 7,298 so far followed by Mombasa (1,812), and Kiambu (725). On June 1, Kenya recorded 69 fatalities, which means that in between June and Friday, July 17, Kenya recorded 153 more deaths an average of 3 deaths per day for 47 days.
