The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) and the World Food World Food Programme (WFP) have signed an agreement in a ceremony witnessed by Mr. Calum Gardner, the Senior Deputy Country Director, WFP Kenya and Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, Director General, RCMRD. Others present were Ms. Mari Hassinen of WFP Kenya and Mr. Sendabo S. Degelo of RCMRD.
Speaking during the ceremony held at RCMRD Offices in Nairobi, Kenya, the Director General-RCMRD, Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza emphasized the importance of collaboration in climate related research, as well as in timely dissemination of findings.
Dr. Nkurunziza underscored the important role that WFP and RCMRD are playing in informing climate resilience and adaptation mechanisms in Kenya’s counties.
The main objectives of Hazard Atlas Development Project are as follows:
· Identifying hazards occurring in the counties and the hotspots
· Mapping hazards
· Developing hazard atlases for the counties
· Improving capacity of the stakeholders through training
The project will be implemented by RCMRD with support from WFP.
