Mobile data collection tool and geoportal user training held in Malawi

The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), with a grant from Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is implementing a project titled, Strengthening the capacity of Ministries of Agriculture in monitoring downstream investments using Geo-information technologies for informed investment decisions and policies. The project has been implemented from May 27, 2019 and will end on August 31, 2021 (27 Months) in four countries that include; Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi and Mozambique.

The goal of the project is to build the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture to monitor agricultural value chain investments using GIS and Earth observation information thereby strengthening their capacity for evidence-based policy, programming and M&E. This will be achieved through development of a geoinformation driven decision support systems and structured capacity building(training) programs.

A a six-day training was held from May 3, to 8, 2021. The training encompassed the installation of the mobile application tool and an understanding of its aspects complete with set-up, troubleshooting and considering the additional features required by the countries (dynamic data collection forms). In addition, the geoportal user training will be conducted within the specified timeline. This training module is structured to enable participants from the Ministries of Agriculture customize data collection forms and ingest in the mobile application tool kit for use in data collection.
