A five day workshop organized by RCMRD, SERVIR Applied Science Team (AST-II), and SERVIR-ESA, that took place in Entebbe, Uganda from May 1 – 5, 2016 has concluded.

This was the second workshop as part of the three planned workshops for the Green House Gas (GHG) Emission accounting. The aim of the workshop was to build the capacity for GHG Accounting for the Agriculture Forest and Land Use (AFOLU) sector in Uganda and generate a complete inventory for the year and identifying data gaps.

In the first workshop (19 – 21 April, 2017), participants were expected to understand the national circumstances as far as AFOLU sector reporting is concerned. The second workshop used Agriculture Land Use tool software for AFOLU GHG reporting. Its components were: Working with ALU to give an account of 2010 Inventory; C/QA; Uncertainty Assessment and Mitigation Analysis.

The participants were drawn from the Ministry of Water and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, National Agricultural Research Organisation, National Forest Authority, REDD+, Ministry of Eastern Africa Community Affairs, and National Agriculture Research Organization. They were introduced to GHG inventories, Agriculture Land Use Tool software, GHG inventory management systems, Agriculture Land Use Tool methods and data, land use emission factors, land use GHG calculation, agriculture activity application, agriculture GHG calculation, uncertainty in Agriculture Land Use Tool.

The third workshop is scheduled for 21– 24 May, 2017 and will address areas that required more capacity, and drafting a way forward as to how SERVIR E&SA may continue supporting the country henceforth.
