Strengthening Conservation Through Strategic Partnerships: RCMRD Meets WWF-Kenya 2025
Recently, the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) visited WWF-Kenya to explore potential synergies and identify collaborative pathways in advancing conservation and sustainable development across the region.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both organizations to safeguard the environment, address climate challenges, and promote sustainable livelihoods. By combining WWF-Kenya’s extensive on-the-ground conservation expertise with RCMRD’s advanced geospatial data and technical capacity, the partnership aims to:
Drive evidence-based decision-making in conservation and resource management.
Support climate resilience efforts in vulnerable ecosystems.
Strengthen environmental governance through data-driven policies.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in leveraging geospatial information and policy integration for impactful conservation outcomes. The joint approach will ensure that conservation strategies are not only rooted in science and technology but also grounded in local realities and community needs.
During the visit, RCMRD Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, presented WWF-Kenya CEO, Mr. Mohamed Awer, with a copy of the recently launched RCoE-ESA Map Book. This publication showcases valuable geospatial insights and serves as a tool for enhancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecosystem management in Eastern and Southern Africa.
Both organizations expressed optimism about the opportunities ahead, reaffirming their dedication to creating a lasting positive impact on the region’s environment and communities.
